RSAD Alumni Bulletin Board
Q: Can you please subscribe/unsubscribe me?
A: Please go to the sign-up page at http://rsad.digizoneinc.com/info.html for subscribing and unsubscribing from the list. Once you log in you can change your email preferences (i.e. digest emails, MIME etc.). Please don't forget your chosen password - it will be needed to make any changes on your account. If you lost your password you can choose the option to get it by email. If all your info changed, email me at DaniRosen@hotmail.com and I'll remove your account so you can re-subscribe.

Q: Can I add more than one email address?
A: Certainly - just sign up for every email you have. You will have to fill in the registration info for each email. Please note that emails sent to the list from an unsubscribed email address will be rejected.

Q: Is this a restriced list? Is this an animation only list?
A: The RSAD Alumni discussion list is not restricted and is not censored. It is meant for alumni of the Ringling School of Art and Design (Sarasota, FL) from any major. You can write about anything with no rules or regulations. However, please be considerate. If you want to share a topic that will interest only one other person on the list - please email that directly to him instead of flooding the list with junk. Not all discussions on the list pertain to art and animation and sometimes topics get out of hand and the list gets flooded. We all do our best to make the topics interesting to at least the majority of the list. Before sending any junk mail out - think of whether it will in fact interest most people on the list.

Q: How can I get my picture on the members page?
A: Please email a 100x120 pixel image (that's 100 pixels wide) to DaniRosen@hotmail.com . Please make it a GIF or a JPEG and try to get it as small in size as possible (i.e. medium to high compression).

Q: I've sent you my new contact info but it's been a week and I still don't see it on the members page...
A: Sorry, I have plenty on my hands. When I get a chance to update, I do so. Please understand I have other things to take care of besides the list. I promise you, though, that I will get to it eventually.

Q: Can I attach files to my emails?
A: Yes, but please keep them small to medium size. Some people still use dial-up connections and huge files might take a long time to download. In addition, some email clients limit the email inbox so those who have such email clients may not get the attachment. If you're planning on sending a file larger than 500 Kb, I recommend posting it on a web-host or on an FTP server and send only the link to the list. Currently the maximum allowed file attachment is 900 Kb.

Q: I'm receiving email threads all out of order - what's up with that?
A: This, actually, seems to be a common problem with some of the web-based email servers out there. Hotmail, typically, seems to deliver your emails out of order. POP accounts seem to be more reliable than web-based emails.

Q: I've sent an email to the list an hour ago and it still hasn't showed up. WTF??
A: Sometimes the system gets congested, and sometimes it just doesn't act all that well. 99.9% of the time when this happens - your emails are safe and are just waiting in the queue to be delivered. If they don't show up the day after - your email may have been lost. Please check the list archive and see if it's in there. Some email servers may be slower than others.

Q: Can we sort the members page?
A: This feature has been added - you can click on any column header and the list will sort, either in an ascending or decending order.

Q: I am getting all this Gibberish in my digest emails, how can I clear it?
A: If your email program (i.e. Outlook Express) supports HTML emails, go into your email preferences through the sign-up page, and turn on MIME. It will enable you to see image attachments and html formatted text.

Q: I am not an RSAD Alumni, can I join the list?
A: This list is meant for RSAD Alumni. Please respect that and sign up once you've graduated from RSAD.

Q: I graduated RSAD in Graphic Design, can I join the list?
A: Of course! While many members come from the Computer Animation major, the list is not limited to any RSAD major. Ringling School is still a small school and we've all been close to colleagues from all majors. It would be a pity if we limited that bond.

Q: Can I Blind Carbon-Copy (BCC:) to the list?
A: In order to prevent spammers from accessing the list, this has been disabled. Please refrain from doing so. Emails BCCed to the list will likely be rejected. On a similar note, the system will also reject emails where there are more than 10 recipients in the "To:" field.

Q: Can't spammers use members' email addresses that are posted all over the place?
A: All email addresses are encrypted in such a way that automatic email extraction programs cannot recognize them as email addresses. If you were to check the source code of the members page you'll see that all the email addresses look like Gibberish - but they would still display properly in the browser.
UPDATE* - to further the fight against email-extraction-bots, I've removed the basic encryption as it may be too basic. Email addresses now rely only on the user's common sense to make them out when sending an email (i.e. - DaniRosen.[at].hotmail.com).

Q: What features does this list have?
A: There's an archive where you can check past threads, links etc.; there's a members page; there's an Industry Survey - where you can see where you are compared to other colleages, as far as working hours, salary, location, field of work etc. (please fill in your own data before checking the rest out). There is now a sub-list for the Los Angeles crowd - to prevent flooding on the main list when an LA even takes place. (The link is at the bottom of the main subscription page. To join, please subscribe to the RSAD list first).
New - the RSAD Alumni Bulletin Board has been added. This will reduce lengthy threads from flooding the email list. Another option that hasn't been created yet is an online photo-album.
If you have any other suggestions to improve the list - please email DaniRosen@hotmail.com
All links are always accessible at the top of the page.
